Indiana Chamber Recognizes The Midas Center As Finalist in Employer of the Year

Indiana INTERNnet, Inc., a statewide internship resource provided by the Indiana Chamber, has named The Midas Center as a finalist for the Employer of the Year in recognition of its 2010 student internship program. The awards program will take place in Indianapolis on February 10, 2011 at the Indiana Chamber Conference Center beginning at 11:30 a.m. People interested in attending the event may register at www.indianaintern.net or call IndianaINTERNnet, Inc. at 317-264-7536. The Indiana Chamber is the largest business advocacy organization in the state.

The Midas Center’s program caught the Chamber’s attention because of the leadership opportunities it offered in local business development and new technology. Owner Andrea Cook comments, “One of the most rewarding parts of my career has been obtaining projects that provide jobs and empower other creative professionals. Working with younger individuals challenges me to keep learning all the evolving technology solutions.”

Intern Camden Robertson, a 2010 graduate of Plymouth High School, was given an opportunity to learn and practice business development skills with the launch of iHEARTplymouth.com. This social media resource was created to improve the quality of life and economic development for local communities and was rolled out during his summer internship program. "The internship has really proved to be beneficial to me in so many aspects,” said Robertson. “My time management has gotten a lot better. My experience at The Midas Center has not only improved my communication skills with some important customers, but the fact that I have experience in sales and marketing via an Internet platform puts me above many of my coworkers that are my age. I’m grateful for my experience there." Robertson is now a student at DePaul University in Chicago.

Networking Breakfast This Thursday

The Midas Center is pleased to invite local business owners and leaders interested in networking to this month's Plymouth Business Connections, a monthly networking event open to the public.

Anyone interested in networking may attend. This event is spearheaded by Angie Stults, Branch Manager of Plymouth PNC and is scheduled for the second Thursday of the month.

This month's networking opportunity will be hosted by The Midas Center at 100 W. Garro Street in downtown Plymouth. Street parking available on Garro and Michigan Street. Light breakfast refreshments will be available.

Announcing New Launch of iHEARTplymouth and Co-Editor

With the recent launch of iHEARTplymouth.com, there is a growing need for extra hands to promote our mission: helping businesses and organizations succeed in the marketplace. We are pleased to announce Cam Robertson, as our co-editor to iHEARTplymouth.com.

Cam is a Plymouth High School senior, soon to be graduate upon Friday evening's commencement program. As the president of student council, vice-president of Key Club, nationally recognized speech club leader and recipient of several awards dedicated to student excellence in the community, we are honored to have Cam play an important role in the early phases of iHEARTplymouth.com.

"Community is a huge value to me, and I love to call Plymouth, Indiana my home. At the same time, however, Plymouth is falling behind in this ever growing technological world. I feel like The Midas Center's new media program is just what this community needs to put Plymouth back on the map! And I would be thrilled to be a part of it!" Cam shares about his interest in the new position.

Cam's passion for community and media is evident as he will continue in pursuit of this interest as a student in the public relations program at DePaul University, Chicago this fall. Andrea Cook, The Midas Center owner and editor of iHEARTplymouth.com shares, "One of the most rewarding parts of my career has been getting projects and opportunities that provide jobs and empower other creative professionals. The Midas Center Welcomes New Team Members

Recently relocated from Chicago, The Midas Center opened its doors at 100 W. Heart for the Arts Reflects Core Values: Part III

Earlier we shared how The Midas Center is passionate about "taking green mainstream" as one of our core values. The articles titled, Office Decor Reflects Core Values: Part I and The Midas Center: Taking Green Mainstream Part II both illustrate our innovative attempts to proactively live out our core values in the office.

Another passion that ignites The Midas Center team is the love for the arts. Sharing office space within a magnificent up-and-coming art gallery makes every day a new and enlightening experience. Since last October when the inSPIRATIVE art center and The Midas Center opened its doors, there have been several talented visual and performing artists that have been showcased.

This week the inSPIRATIVE art center is preparing another stellar art opening event titled, "susPENded." Today, as we walked into our offices at 100 West Garro Street in downtown Plymouth, we were so fortunate to have a sneak peak of this exhibit. We are reminded of how blessed we are to have the opportunity to be located within such creative talent, the synergy of creativity is heating up! This Friday's event will bring on the heat without a doubt.

The love for the arts is another mainstay for our core values and we are proud to promote the works of artists other creative organizations who showcase creative individuals. The Midas Center: Taking Green Mainstream Part II

You may recall a previous post written here about the first installment of The Midas Center's Core Values. One of the core values uncovered in that article is the high importance The Midas Center places on visual integrity(TM).

Visual Integrity(TM) is so important that The Midas Center trademarked the term. From the office decor to the printed and online materials, there is the highest regard for aesthetics and visual appeal. This focus on visual appeal translates through The Midas Center's communications for its own marketing purposes and is applied to each and every client communication tool, too.

This post would like to introduce its next core value: eco-friendliness. The Midas Center understands that the choices their team makes in day-to-day living and working isn't perfect, but does place attention on the social responsibility to be better stewards of our earth and its valuable resources. From the office decor to the portfolio of "green" clients, The Midas Center is dedicated to do all it can to "Reuse, Recycle, Reduce."

In October 2009 when The Midas Center restarted its business in downtown Plymouth, owner Andrea Cook needed to make purchases for office furniture and decor. She was pleased to find 100% of the office furniture from local thrift stores like Salvation Army, ReStore and the Recycle Depot. From the paint on the walls, that by the way just happens to be a perfect match of Pantone 131 - the gold in The Midas Center's logo, to the conference tables, chairs, kitchenette cabinetry, counter-tops and presentation easel, the office furniture is all second-hand.

When items are purchased from thrift shops or second-hand stores it is a win-win for so many people:
- The items were saved from going to a landfill or collecting dust in someone's basement.
- The cost of the items were budget-friendly, for example, the office chair was purchased from the Culver Wesley United Methodist Church annual rummage sale for $4.
- Repurposing materials can be fun, such as an old door into a large desk can promote creativity, develop into a hobby and reduce stress.

The Midas Center is proud to be green. The eco-friendly choices that have been made for this business has not only been earth-friendly, budget-friendly, they have also helped our business grow. Sharing values and interests in the community opens the doors to new opportunities with other businesses. It also builds awareness in the community. The Midas Center is purposeful on taking green mainstream.

US Industries: Out with the Old, In with the New

As one calendar approaches the end of its lifecylce, all 2010 calendars are primed and ready to go. Much like some key industries reported by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) this month, the adage: Out with the Old, In with the New holds true for the marketplace with some industries predicted to decline while emerging sectors show signs of growth.

According to the BLS report, growth industries include:

- Offices of physicians
- Computer systems design and related services
- Other general merchandise stores
- Employment services
- Local government, excluding education and hospitals

- Services for the elderly and persons with disabilities

On the flip side, the BLS reports these industries expected to experience the steepest employment declines:

- Cut and sew apparel manufacturing

- Support activities for mining

Christmas Folk Party: Successful Benefit for Community and Neighborhood Center

Downtown Plymouth is beginning to look a lot like Christmas, with all the folks who gathered on Friday night to ring in the holidays. Droves of families met out front of the City Center to welcome Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus who arrived in all their splendor riding and waving to children on the Plymouth's fire truck. For years the city has carried on this tradition, but this year there were many new sights to behold. The Marshall County Historic museum stayed open late to welcome guests. Immediately following the debut of the fireworks celebration, a man with a child on his shoulders was overheard shouting, "I love Plymouth!"

As the annual festivities carried on, the public entered into the inSPIRATIVE art center on Garro and Michigan Street entrances for a Christmas Folk Party. This benefit was a community event to for the Marshall County Neighborhood Center. Presented by The Midas Center and inSPIRATIVE, the event was riddled with activities for all ages. Performer and songwriter, Chad Van Herk strummed in the holidays with some Christmas tunes and some songs from his debut album titled, Leavin' Footprints. This evening's activities were provided by our generous sponsors Heartland Artists, Herb Store, Imaginary Art School, Sisters' Tea and Eatery and The Laugh Out Loud Company. Mr. Art, the balloon artist provided guests with premium balloons, including the Grinch (pictured below), won by Don Relos and his family.
